Western Academic Talent Search - Application

Application Process - the 2016-2017 season has ended. Please check back in August for information on the 2017-2018 season.

  1. Create your WATS family portal account. Click "APPLY ONLINE" above - please note, this is NOT the same system as summer enrollments and you will need to create a new WATS account for this year. Have your proof of eligibility scanned (JPG or PDF only) before you begin!
  2. Upload your eligibility letter - the system will NOT allow you to SUBMIT your application until this piece has been added.
  3. Select your testing date and your test site from the dropdown menu for your state (please contact us if you need an exception to test out-of-state AFTER selecting the closest site to you on your application).
  4. E-sign your application and hit SUBMIT. WE DO NOT HAVE YOUR APPLICATION until you hit the "SUBMIT" button!
  5. Make the appropriate payment as indicated.

Applications MUST be SUBMITTED by 11:59pm Mountain time on appropriate deadlines to process. If you are applying in the late window, you will automatically be charged the additional $35 late fee.

If you have any questions, please contact the CBK office at 303-428-2634 or cbk@centerforbrightkids.org. Please email for any tech support. Our call center assists less often with these issues.

E-mail Information

It is also critical to provide an adult non-work e-mail address that will be accessible through the Talent Search year. E-mail contact allows us to send important reminders and information in a timely manner. No contact information will be shared with anyone outside of CBK without your consent. *The Interpretive Guide and all Recognition Ceremony information will be sent via e-mail. If you change addresses during the year, you must update with WATS in order to receive ceremony invitations and program information. Please note that if you use a work email, you will need to watch your SPAM box or enable CBK as a sender, as your workplace may not recognize CBK attachments and trash them. CBK cannot be held responsible for incorrect, changed, lost, or misplaced emails. These emails primarily go out in late April and early May.

Fees

The $47 WATS application fee is non-refundable and does not pay for the tests themselves. This fee covers the cost of postage, mail-house prep, printing, and processing of registration, distribution of score discs to the date center and all materials to families and educators, analysis of score data, the Interpretive Guide, the Educational Resources Page, coordination with schools and districts, and participation certificates.

Fee Waivers and Special Accommodations -

Students who qualify for the free/reduced lunch program at school are eligible for both an ACT fee waiver and WATS reduced fee, available based upon date of registration. To qualify, documentation of free/reduced lunch program eligibility must accompany the WATS application with a $36 WATS fee. Only one waiver can be distributed per student. The College Board does not offer test waivers.

For special accommodations, additional forms must be completed through the testing company and documentation provided for necessary accommodations. This is a lengthy process, so please contact us to start now. You should apply online, but make sure we have an email written request for accommodations contacts. WATS does not set up these arrangements.
