Vector Progressive School

Vector Progressive School is an independent secondary school serving gifted and talented students aged 11-18 in multiage classrooms with a progressive education mindset based in social justice. Through culturally relevant pedagogies we challenge our understandings of the sociocultural contexts which surround us. Interdisciplinary curriculum allows our students to make connections across fields and ways of knowing that are not typically as accessible in a traditional classroom setting.

At Vector, we encourage imaginative thinking, a discovery of the world, a passion for thinking and playing, and a world view that emphasizes recognition of our role as members of a global community. At the same time, rigorous curriculum pushes a deconstruction and metacognition around what knowledge and success really mean. We promote student independence, confidence, empowerment and positive self-esteem through respectful, responsible, and accountable contributions in a community that is safe and responsive to the need for a sense of belonging.

Vector Progressive School is seeking committed educators who value and understand a progressive model to join our school community. Classroom Co-Teachers work in collaboration with our Community Liaison Social Worker and Experiential Support Coach as well as their content specialist teams of three teachers and teach a multiage classroom that roughly follows middle school or high school grade levels. Vector is seeking cross-curricular humanities and sciences teachers, as well as mathematics and fine arts specialists. We believe education can look and feel differently and can be a place of authentic meaning for both kids and staff as we create knowledge together.

Vector Progressive School is seeking a front office staff member who deeply values and understands a progressive model to join our school community and serve as one of the primary faces of the school in new family interactions. The Enrollment Specialist works in collaboration with the Executive Director and Social Worker, as well as teaching teams across multiage classrooms that roughly follow middle school or high school grade levels. Vector is seeking a front office staff member who will work collaboratively with school administration to help establish the culture of the school community, welcome families to the building, support students needing additional adult assistance, manage first point of contact phone lines and email and construct cross-school communications, offer school tours, and serve in administrative functions to maintain databases and enrollments for each school year.

Vector Progressive School is seeking a staff member who likely comes from prior paraprofessional work who values and understands a progressive model to join our school community. The Experiential Support Coach works in collaboration with the Community Liaison Social Worker and Executive Director as well as teaching teams across multiage classrooms that roughly follow middle school or high school grade levels. Vector is seeking a mental health staff member who will work collaboratively with school administration to help establish the culture of the school community, participate in supplemental behavioral management, and be a part of the decision-making for the overall school climate. In addition, the Experiential Support Coach will develop and lead outdoor education opportunities for classroom units or schoolwide community building.

Summer Instructional Staff

Call for Instructional Staff (this position has closed)

Instructors are content experts who may be certified teachers, university-level instructors or faculty, or professional content experts in their fields. They do not live on campus unless coming from out of state. Lunches during the program are provided to instructional staff. There is a great deal of autonomy in course development within the structures, policies, and guidelines of CBK curriculum so that unique, high-interest courses across the curriculum may be offered, many times to students who return year after year and are looking for something new.

SHINE level courses feel like accelerated enrichment in high school courses.

GLOW level courses feel like upper-level high school content.

Luminary Project courses are expected to demand the rigor equivalent to a collegiate freshman-junior level course or the full equivalent of an AP-level high school course.

In order to pitch a course, an instructor must provide a detailed course proposal including a course description, skeleton overview of salient content, and adherence to CBK standards for rigor. The content must be related to an area of expertise for that instructor as reflected in a curriculum vitae or extended resume. Please see the Call for Instructors ad for details and distribution. CBK has completed hiring of summer TAs.

Teaching Assistants mirror instructional staff in teaching teams and the depth of this role is determined upon discussion with the course instructor. TA’s are typically hired beginning in March of the program year and are often identified by recommendation from the course instructor. TA’s also are expected to serve as bridge positions and are more involved in the residential day than instructional staff. Please submit a full cover letter reflecting any teaching experience and content expertise as well as a current resume.

Summer Residential Staff

Residential Assistants live on campus beginning the first evening of training through the last day of the program. Residential assistants are required to focus on the needs of the program and are not able to work at an outside job during the training and program dates. Candidates may, and are encouraged, to apply for more than one program. All housing, full meal plan, and training expenses are included in compensation, though the benefits package total is not included in the posted pay stipends. RA’s must be at least 18 years of age to supervise minors, or 21 years of age for Luminary. RA hiring begins in February once returning staff are determined.

RA’s supervise morning preparation and plan community time for their wings of 10-16 kids, supervise and interact with kids during meals, plan and engage in afternoon and evening activity periods with kids across the program, and plan intensive evening meetings with their wings.

Please note that this is a rigorous and immensely rewarding experience in which you will be interacting with kids aged 8-18 who are living on a wing with you. While you are not usually “on” overnight, you are expected to be able to respond immediately to kid concerns that may occur during the night. Days off are limited and weekends cannot be taken off, as we are actively supervising kids. Good health is recommended as an asset. Once the position is offered and accepted, a full commitment to CBK for the defined times is required.

Most former and returning CBK staff describe these jobs as “life-changing.” All training will be provided both prior to and on the job, including formal first aid/CPR training for RA’s if your certification is not current. We look forward to your ambition, energy, and desire to make a difference in these kids’ lives and in your own life.
